Predicted Trends for 2014

Predicted Trends for 2014

JBtrendsLike them or not, here are a few “trends” in the closet, furniture, and fashion industries that are being predicted for the year 2014.  Some are quite nice, some are “eek!” … but, everyone has their own tastes!  What do you think of them?

Textures, wood grains, and colors

Textures and wood grains are not going away; we’re seeing them recede into the background as an accent wall or the framework of cabinetry with solid color door and drawer fronts.  Because these wood grains are not at the forefront of the design, they become highly grained and rough hewn in appearance.  Mixing various materials such as glass, steel, stone and fabrics is another up-and-coming trend for 2014.  The juxtaposition of the rustic vs. the modern creates a warm and cozy atmosphere that’s also modern and sleek.

White and Orange GlossExperts in the thermofoil industry (the melamine we use in our closet systems) are predicting solids will be back heavily in 2014.  However, these solids are not like the solids previously released.  They will have a depth and intensity that pairs well with the newest wood grains.

CCity NARI hersOf course, we can’t talk about solids without also mentioning glosses.  High gloss will continue to shine in 2014.  This year, it will be paired with natural stones, for example white marble paired with green gloss.  This keeps the gloss from being overwhelming, and brings a light and fresh feeling to the design.

Adding pops of gloss colors to your white designs helps keep them from looking too sterile.  Designers favored the color “tangerine” in 2012 and “emerald” in 2013.

The predicted Color of the Year for 2014 is “radiant orchid”.  Wow, that will definitely be a “pop of color”!  🙂
