A behind-the-scenes look at a recent closet installation project, as documented by a college intern who had the opportunity to “tag along” with our crew one day …
After working behind the scenes at Closet City for a couple of months, I was given the green light to go along with an install team to see the company’s craftsmen in action.
I really had no idea what to expect when I was given the address of the job. I arrived at the location and discovered the residence was within the Blue Bell Country Club, which has been at the forefront of golfing and providing outstanding venues for events for over 25 years. I was then welcomed into the home and shown the closet in question. The Closet City install crew would be conducting the transformation of a basic wire-shelving-lined closet to a fully functioning, custom-designed wardrobe.
I started by taking some “before” pictures of the site, and noticed how unique the space was. The closet had 45-degree ceilings which I thought would make the project more difficult, but when I talked to the installers, it turns out they deal with this challenge quite often. The Closet City installers and I got to work quickly by unloading the truck and setting up the workspace, but not before we covered the path to the closet with drop cloths to eliminate any mess that might be left behind. I was impressed how the guys basically had this install process down to a science and they got in a groove right from the start.
However, just as we thought everything was going according to plan, one of the installers noticed a missed measurement regarding a hidden attic duct. This one mishap didn’t hinder the process though. They went straight to work making custom cuts on the site and fixing the problem within hours. I did not know what to expect since this was my first rodeo, but was anticipating to have a long day after hearing about missing measurements. This all being said, we finished right on schedule, and the installers didn’t miss a beat during the entire project.
Everything the Closet City installers did had a very systematic process to it, even down to the clean up and final words with the client. Overall, I had an amazing time during the install. Despite what I thought would be a snag in the operation, the seasoned veterans of Closet City adapted and solved the situation on site, and all during one day’s visit.
